I'm not sure what to do with Ron Paul. He's got some awful positions, ranging from trying to destroy the remaining separation between church and state, to a long history of incredibly racist statements in his newsletters, to plenty of other things that those of you who follow politics could probably enumerate (or ask your friend "El Goog"). So when someone seems to want the US to be a great country for White Christians only, I want to be able to write that person off as a hateful nutjob. And many people have done that for Ron Paul, and with ample good reason.

However.

The thing is, Ron Paul keeps being a voice of reason in Congress on various issues. He was against the Iraq War. He voted to repeal DADT. And on some issues, he's one of the only people making senseactually trying to introduce legislation to stop the freedom-encroaching expansion of the TSA. And now he's defending Wikileaks with what I'd have to say is a pretty damned reasonable floor speech you could either watch or read the transcript of.

So I'm not sure what to do with him. I don't think I could ever support the campaign of someone I honestly believe to be racist to that degree (not to mention all the other stuff). But lately, every time I see a news story about him, I am thankful that at least someone in Congress is saying something reasonable, and I wish more people would listen to Ron Paul.

Just, y'know, not on all the issues where he's wrong.

Clearly, this post isn't political enough yet, so here's last weekends column, which was a response to an Egyptian official blaming the Mossad for recent shark attacks.
