Little Things
Oct. 17th, 2010 01:35 amSo, I'm fairly pleased with the steak (marinated in red wine, worcestershire, and ground mustard) that I cooked tonight. But I think my favorite meal of the past week was last night. Debbie made this thing that is basically tiny marshmallows, only made entirely out of seafood! They are called something like "Skah Lupps", and they are completely delicious. I kept picking these little marshmallows out and eating them, just like lucky charms. Unlike lucky charms, the non-marshmallow part was also delicious, because the Skah Lupps were served in a parmesan and white wine risotto with asparagus and portabello. Another reason you envy me: I have leftovers.
This past weekend's column is about Television. I've had numerous people compliment me on the column, which is always very nice to hear (especially after a rough week). It also reinforces my belief that I have no idea which writing of mine people will like, because some of my favorite columns never got any positive comments. So, the plan is to just keep writing as best I can, and try to get my writing out there so the people who might enjoy each given thing might have that opportunity.
Which reminds me:
a) Have I mentioned that From God To Verse makes a wonderful gift, and is currently on sale?
b) This Thursday there's some poetry stuff going on in Pittsfield, so I'll be performing at a barber-shop poetry slam at 6, and then attending Outspoken where (in addition to reading some new stuff at the open mic) I'm hoping to help facilitate a freestyle circle.
There was definitely something else I was going to post, but I've forgotten. I guess I can mention that I've recently taken another accounting of my failings, and I don't seem likely to fix many of them in the near future. I'm not listing them all here, because this is the INTERNET, but suffice to say that of late my disorganization has not been helpful. At least it's confined to the personal, rather than professional, realm.
(My newspaper columns have never been late in the decade plus that I've been writing for papers. Meanwhile, last week I missed two different events in North Adams that I had meant to attend. And this week I can swear I have something I am supposed to do on Friday, but I have not the faintest notion of what it might be.)
The good news is, taking accounting of my successes, they still outweigh my failures to the point that I continue to be very happy with life in general. Even if I am still living in August and cannot believe how fast the year is going.
