RBIT On Exibit
Oct. 9th, 2010 04:08 pmSo, I just got back from Gloversville. Last night we drove up there so our improv troupe (RBIT) could participate in their comedy festival. We were playing some theatresports (competitive improv) with/against Albany's improv group, MopCo. For 45 minutes. Which ended up being 15 minutes of introduction and such, and then 15 minutes' worth of games from each troupe. So part of me wishes that given five hours of driving and an overnight hotel stay, we got to do more than three short improv games. (Technically there was also an improv jam with people from four groups. Very fun, but I had only a bit part.)
On the other hand, it was a fantastic event. The audience, which probably numbered somewhere from 60-90 people, was wonderful. Each of our three games was an absolute triumph, filled with good improv, plenty of cleverness, and lots of audience laughter. I was fortunate enough to be in all three games. And the whole event was fun to see, as it also included a vaudeville-esque sketch comedy duo named Paul and Chris, and a stand-up comedian Rory Scovel. Getting to chat with the other comedy folks after the show was nice (at a bar that was somewhat quiet! so you could actually have conversations! what a novel idea!), and one of them mentioned we should really do the Boston Improv fest. Note to self: Ask
ppaladin more about Boston Improv at some future point.
Meanwhile, just got off the phone with a restaurant I have to finish writing up a review for this weekend; may try to go do that now, because tonight we're doing another improv show at Main Street Stage. No doubt we'll get to play a lot more games, but I also doubt we'll get nearly so many people in the audience. Although hey, if you have no plans tonight and wanted to be in North Adams at 8...
