So, someone on freecycle was asking if anyone could darn their socks. I replied and said, "Darn you, socks! Why do you always get holes! -- glad to help." And then they wrote me and thanked me and asked where they could give me the socks, presuming I could actually, y'know, do things that were useful. So I had to explain that I was making a joke and could not, in fact, repair their socks. Lame.

We're finally having real snow here. Sadly, I can't appreciate it, as I've been feeling incredibly ill the past few days, for no discernable reason. I've already reverted to eating toast, salad, and eggs (rather than last week's tasty array of things like scallop stir fry, fajitas, mushroom risotto, etc.), but I'm still feeling nauseated and not enjoying it. I couldn't even write my column last night, which is problematic since I don't believe in missing deadlines*. So I took the low road and borrowed from some of my ancient college scribblings because I was desperate. Lame. Once I'm feeling better, I really need to remember to put a column or two in a can for occasions such as this.

*Specifically, paid deadlines set by others where production rests in my hands. I miss my own deadlines for myself all the time. And unpaid deadlines (e.g. "I'll probably write you a song by next Tuesday") don't always happen either. And then with writings that require interviewing other people, I am sometimes at the mercy of my subjects w/r/t time schedule. But when I'm being paid by someone else to write something not requiring interviews, I've never missed a professional deadline.
