So, I was in the pantry looking for things for dinner, and found a small tin of bull liver pâté. I know it wasn't going to be for dinner, because [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish doesn't always roll with the wacky foods like I do, but then I looked at the expiration date and it appears to be for mid-late 2007. I opened it up anyway, and there's weird white speckles throughout the pâté.

I'm willing to admit that this, coupled with the year-old expiration date, probably means that the pâté has gone bad. However, a big goal of mine in life is to sample different land-animals. I have never tasted bull liver pâté, and so I feel like I really ought to try just a little bit.

How risky is sampling a tiny portion of old pâté? Should I take from the center of the can, since the stuff seems to be more concentrated at the edges? What's the worst that could happen from a thumbnail-full? Anyone reading this close to 7pm EST should definitely weigh in with your thoughts. I may check back in 15 minutes to see if people said anything. Or I may just decide to try a bite in 15 minutes. Or I may just throw it out. But, bull liver pâté, un-tasted animal-based food!

I am torn.

EDIT: Well, [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish came home before I could make a decision, and advised against. I figured I'd check back here for a second opinion, but since there were none for, four against, and one video camera, the bull liver pâté is now in the trash.

Alas.
