So, my father was in town on Friday for all of two hours, kindly dropping by to take me to dinner since he had a tennis match an hour away. Amazingly, he still managed to find time to badger me about not having a car, not going to grad school, and not having a viable career. But lest I seem too negative about my father, let me hasten to add that he has been very supportive of my writing, and continues to be a guiding humor influence, as evidenced by this excerpt from our dinner conversation:

Me: "...it's not good for a writer. Apparently, my grammar is terrible."
Dad: "Well, she does have Alzheimer's."
Me: "For a second there, I thought you were going on apparent, not grammar."
Dad: "Well, it was a parent to me, but not a parent to you."
Me: "Too bad it's not your grammar, because then it'd be great grammar for me..."
