Mix and Mash
Sep. 5th, 2006 03:36 pmGot to see many people in camping for the weekend. I attended for a day, but left without camping, because I hate camping. Though watching people try to tie down tarps in high wind that kept ripping and blowing away was somewhat entertaining. Then I missed seeing two people I wanted to see because the brunch they held was hours before I woke up. Then
tsiarxof dropped by to show me his latest animation and play Magic for a while.
It appears I may have to go to RI this weekend for research, and I'm not ready at all. I should call lots of people whom I don't know how to contact and set up interviews. I stay afloat only by remembering that like the infinite pingpong balls, somehow this book project will all be over by mid-next year.
Meanwhilst, it's time for some mix and mashup links:
If Stan Lee had written Watchmen -- Five sample pages, fairly entertaining for any comics buffs (you know who you are)
Ring Cycle Remixes -- Wagner would roll in his anti-Semitic grave to hear this list of modernized Ring remixes. The top one on the list by David Chong is highly recommended; it's Nerdcore superstars Baddd Spellah on the beats and MC Frontalot on the vocals. You can even vote for your favorite.
The Beachles -- Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" albums mashed together. Note: Less an artful mashup, more an interesting audio comparison of the way each pair of songs from the albums fit together.
Italics just made me realize... there was this one time my whole friends page was italicized because someone (I won't name names) forgot to close her italics html tag. Since it started in the middle of her post, it was easy to see it was her. However, it just occurred to me that one could end one's post with the open italics tag, and it would appear to be the next person's fault. But I won't do that, because I've just spoiled it.

Date: 2006-09-05 10:42 pm (UTC)The brilliance of that Ring Cycle rap makes up for the ho-hum nature of the remaining numbers. I particularly enjoyed this couplet:
"The music's hella stupid, it ain't got no beat
And that's the 22nd time I've heard that leitmotif"
The Beachles is unfortunately not that impressive. The tempo changes just don't sound right on the first number

Date: 2006-09-05 11:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm a big fan of MC Frontalot and Baddd Spellah. If it clearly outshines the rest (of which I've only listened to four, and agree so far), you can vote for it daily.
And the Beachles is perhaps less mashup than audio comparison -- perhaps I'll go edit the post.
