With most of my regular freelance work now off my plate, this is really a prime opportunity for me to get some work done on my book. Admittedly, so far this month I've been more focused on performances, but I hope the next few weeks will be more productive. I've been going every Tuesday to the WordxWord 365 Events, which include various poetry features, open mics, and last night a "Story Slam" I participated in. That's all been very fun.

Last Thursday my improv troupe RBIT did a fundraiser show to raise money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Berkshire Branch), and frankly it was a phenomenal show. I only hope we do as well at our upcoming musical show at the Colonial Garage on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24. As part of the 10x10 festival, we'll be performing an entire evening of Unscripted Musicals, about which I am sort of excited (and only a little terrified).

Before that, this Saturday night I am part of a Stand-Up Comedy Showcase that is also part of the 10x10 festival, featuring comedians from around Albany and New England, and also me. It should be a pretty good show; aside from me, most all of the comedians have performed at numerous clubs all over, and the headliner has been on Comedy Central.

A small boardgame expansion just arrived in a package for me yesterday to review. So I guess I'm not completely done reviewing after all! I'll get to that soon. Speaking of boardgaming, I was having a conversation on BoardGameGeek about words used to refer to the person you love and live with but have not married, and in addition to some interesting discussion, someone posted this Douglas Hofstadter satirical essay about gendered language which I imagine might interest a number of you.

My column from last week was about Groundhog Day and the Super Bowl.
