What are the Four Pillars?
Dec. 5th, 2012 01:19 amWalking. Gaming. Writing. Friends.
Trying to refocus my life a bit, and make sure my days contain all four of these; no point waiting for new years to make a resolution. Didn't really manage to catch up with anyone today unless you count a brief online chat, but at least I got out for a walk, which I haven't been managing regularly. Henceforth, I really intend to make sure my days each contain all four of these things if possible; I know it makes me happier, and makes my life richer.

ppaladin sent me an online chat today to say "Talk with friend, check. I'm thinking of a number, guess what it is? Game, check." I admitted as I was technically writing to him as well. Then the phone rang. I had a suspicion it might be Josh. "Did you have to get up to answer the phone? Walk, check. We're done here." Anyway, it's pretty funny, and it's probable that I ought do a better job of keeping in touch with my far-flung friends, but my immediate goal is to take advantage of the fact that I live near people I enjoy spending time with, since the main reason I live here in the first place is because people I like are here, so it's ridiculous for me not to hang out with them.
Kindle e-book formatting is really stupid. Unimaginably, mind-bogglingly stupid. Having failed completely to convert from a pdf, I tried a Word document. Went through and re-formatted it all and added page breaks and everything to make it pretty. And got it uploaded so it looks okay... on one subset of kindle. On some others, it randomly indents everything so even short lines have to wrap. Apparently the next recommendation is to convert everything to html and reformat it all again, line by line. Really not looking forward to it, but unless anyone has any magic ebook bullet (Bueller?), it seems like the only way to get this done correctly.
In other news, although I was a bit liberal with the chronology, my column this week is otherwise an accurate portrayal of my struggles with my furnace, crossed with Dante's Inferno.
