On improving the world

Not something I do enough of, alas.

At reunion this weekend, I was at a buffet line with Landsman, and the server putting out the strawberries was clearly a little stressed. I forget exactly what he said, but he said something nice to the other server, and gave her some friendly message of encouragement to pass along to the stressed server. And I thought: This is the kind of thing I should be doing. I also saw that she was stressed, but I just sort of processed it as "Must be stressful w/so many people" and was ready to move on. A better course of action was a kind word for someone having a rough day (or hour, whatever.) Am going to try to more actively improve the days of random people around me.

Although here I am with grand plans of ameliorating the days of strangers, and I don't even manage to hang out with friends often enough.
