Weekend Update (without Dennis Miller)
Jun. 12th, 2006 05:02 pmWell, it was an interesting weekend.
kmunson779 (who actually reads all the rules of a board game she's playing) and husband were in for the reunion, so I tagged along with them. Given that my closest friends from college tend to gather on our own terms (as you know, since many of them are you), I figured the college reunion wouldn't be useful for me. But I ran into a few old friends unexpectedly, and it was very nice to see them. (I also ran into someone who used to hate me, and she acted very friendly, but I saw the recognition in her eyes after 10 seconds and it was mildly awkward). Sadly, I had to leave literally minutes before dinner was served on Saturday.
What could possibly entice me to leave just before a free dinner? Well, I had been commissioned to write a poem for Inkberry's 5th anniversary party "Inkstravaganza". So, with ground transportation provided by
the_star_fish, I arrived just at the start of the party. It was fairly well-attended, and even though it wasn't as fun as the impromptu poem on defenestration I'd delivered the previous weekend, my poem was well-received.
Meanwhile, I've become ensconced in the Nerdcore Rap scene. I wrote a column about it last week, and I keep browsing the message boards, where other rappers seem to be dissing Ham-STAR's low production values but generally approving of his lyrics. In case you missed Ham-STAR's post last week, you should go to RhymeTorrents.com and download a free metric trouserload of Nerdcore music. Plus, the posse track should be up this week, which includes a nice verse by Ham-STAR.
I should really take this weekend to work on my book, since I've had guests the past two weekends. But I haven't been to Boston in too long, so we'll see what I end up doing.
