Right, I realize that having a column is a good thing, so I'm not going to take much space to complain (though I'll take a bit more on my WSO page). But the short version is, in addition to being edited away by people who see them, my puns get copy-edited away by people who probably missed them.

Rule #7: When beset by two large problems and a negligible minor annoyance, complain about the latter.

Sometimes your puns are too frequent or obscure. It's like adjectives in lawyer writing - less is more.
