Returneth, I

My long weekend in Boston was fooded, friended, and festive.

The bus to Boston used to just stop in Pittsfield and Springfield, but on Friday it also stopped in Newton. Go fig. I arrived in the afternoon and met [livejournal.com profile] stealthmuffin for tasty tasty Burdick's hot chocolate, which strikes me as a most excellent way to die should the need arise. We talked about writing, and editing, and, well, chocolate. Then it was time to go to dinner, where I met up with [livejournal.com profile] ppaladin, [livejournal.com profile] shellaby, and [livejournal.com profile] shimonrura (my gracious hosts), [livejournal.com profile] nescio17, [livejournal.com profile] mryn and [livejournal.com profile] wellstar, R., C., and N. eventually, after a bit of confusion since the restaurant had moved from where we thought it was and had told everyone to meet.

Then it was off to the Comedy Club, where we met up with [livejournal.com profile] k_ericson and [livejournal.com profile] g_me, whose father was the hit of the evening. The comedian was talking about relationships, and while he was chatting with people in the audience, discovered that her father was in his second marriage. The comedian asked him, "So, do you have any shit left over from your first marriage?" His response? A sideways gesture towards [livejournal.com profile] g_me. Brilliant! We ended up going over to R.'s after the show for an equally hilarious round of Oracle before the T schedule necessitated departure.

Saturday was a fromagerially fulfilling luncheon with [livejournal.com profile] cute_fuzzy_evil and [livejournal.com profile] ethicsgradient, followed by a trip to go see "Urinetown", a wonderful musical mockery that I highly recommend. After a simple dinner, we returned home for a low-key gathering of gaming, where some San Juan was played. But the big gaming highlight was the post-midnight 2-man Puerto Rico grudge match between [livejournal.com profile] ppaladin and myself. Many crafty strategies and tactics were employed, and it came down to tie score - which was settled in his favor since he had more doubloons left over.

Sunday, after brunch, I got to walk around with [livejournal.com profile] mryn for a while, whom I hadn't talked to in far too long. We ended up walking all the way to [livejournal.com profile] nescio17 and [livejournal.com profile] galorette's house, where I got to wield a cleaver with extreme prejudice to chop many vegetables for the big dinner they were hosting. Then I tried to clean up the pound of food that had ended up on the floor. (Like a voluptuous woman in a tiny shirt, my cleaveage had sort of spilled all over the place.) [livejournal.com profile] miraielle was conveniently in visiting from across the land, and even if her car was dead, she was not, which pleased us all. We had dinner, and then went to see Serenity (her 4th time) at a pricy theatre with ridiculous decorations. On Monday, I came back home and barely caught my bus because the T had crapped out at Harvard Square. Then I marvelled at the fact that anyone could possibly bother to read this entire summary.

And tomorrow, a pair of philosophical friends come over for dinner and cards. Sometimes, life is good.
