What would you save with your computer on fire?

Well, thisafternoon my computer started dying (or technically, dying harder; it's been on the way for a while), but amidst all the whirring, disk-checking, and repeated error screens and dying, I managed to get it up and running again for a few minutes that I used to email myself some files. Here's what I saved, in order:

1) My work so far on the book I have on deadline
2) Archive of my humor columns
3) Archive of my poems
4) My "TO DO LIST" file I keep on my desktop
5) A rap I had recently recorded and hadn't done anything with.

And then the whirring slowed and nothing would load and I shut it down. Sort of sad not to be able to save the rest of my raps, but those files are too big.

Meanwhile, looks like I'm in the market for a new computer.

Coming to you from 2006

So yeah, I think my Lenovo has bit the dust. Thankfully, I was able to salvage the most important files on it. I am currently using my previous computer, a VPR matrix with 64 megs of RAM. [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish helped me get it back up and running with a little gumption and a lot of moral support. It has to run Gmail in html-only, can't use chrome or facebook or other fancy stuff, but is on the Internets and lets me check my email, so that'll suffice until I get a new computer.

Which I am going to order very shortly. Here's what I'm looking at, the Gateway FX6860:

I might buy this

Anyone who wants to take a look and either reassure me that this is a sensible purchase that will do what I want (browse net, record raps, play games), or warn me that this computer is made of bees and explodes randomly, I'd appreciate.
