This week's column was inspired by North Adams Open Studios, and is about art appreciation..

So, I'm just back from seeing Weird Al Yankovic with [livejournal.com profile] shideem, [livejournal.com profile] shgb, and [livejournal.com profile] the_star_fish. The show was, in a word, awesome. I'd only seen Weird Al one other time, well over a decade ago, and I am glad that he is still rocking the house. He started off with a modern polka medley from his newest album, transitioning right into "Frank's 2000 Inch TV", which D was gleefully singing along with. In fact, she gleefully sang along with much of the evening, which was pretty fun.

I was worried he'd do all recent stuff based on songs I didn't know, but he had a nice selection that included newer stuff, slightly less recent stuff, and old classics. After some video segments, the band came out all dressed like Nirvana to perform "Smells Like Nirvana", and Weird Al's costuming was flawless. They even had the two cheerleaders in the background. And let me just say, the live gargling was totally awesome. The big song medley in the middle of the show was awesome. The incredible breakdown during the encore was so awesome that I can't even describe it. And basically the whole show (and evening) was really, really, really awesome.

Forehead. (that's a reference mainly for Lex.)
