I don't have the ability to make a shiny radio button poll, so I'll just have to ask a series of open questions, but I hope that if you have any particular opinion on this that you might reply.

When you post a life update on your LJ, do you expect many (any) comments? Do you expect comments for certain classes of accomplishments (new job, creation of tasty food with pictures, new story) but not others? Do you presume that many people have read your post but not commented? Are you irked/offended if your friends list does not comment? Does your answer change depending on how many comments other posts in your LJ circle are getting? And most importantly: When people comment, do you feel you ought to reply to their comment? What if the comment is basically "Congrats / Good Job / Yay" ?

Conversely, when commenting on other people's posts, are you irked/offended if the original poster does not acknowledge your comment? What if your comment was basically "Congrats/ Good Job / Yay" ? Would your answer change depending on the number of such comments left? Would your answer change if the original poster replied to some comments but not yours?

(If any of you don't already know my answers, they'll be revealed in a subsequent post.)
