Sometimes the world does not arrange itself in the most convenient manner for me personally. Which is to say, upcoming events which promise be fun and good fall at times that are less fun and good. The result is that this year I'll be seeing somewhat less of my college friends than I'd like.*

I already knew that I'd be missing the annual September gathering for a wedding. But I've just realized that much of the publicity stuff I agreed to do in RI for my book falls on Homecoming weekend. This is, in a word, sub-optimal. Some publicity has already been done for a group where I'm speaking at their annual meeting, so that can't be rescheduled. And naturally, with that already in place, I got some booksignings set up in RI on the same weekend, so I'd only have to make one trip. Only I sort of didn't realize that was homecoming weekend. Now it's too late.

So... er.... anyone want to come visit during October? I'll put you up and cook you dinner.

Also, I should try to set up a booksigning in Boston during October. This would give me a great impetus to get to Boston, and possibly even help me sell a book. Any Bostonians have good bookshop recommendations, where "good" is defined as "a bookstore trafficked by people, but isn't a huge Borders/B&N so I'd actually have a shot of setting up a signing"?

*(technically, I see less of my college friends than I'd like every year, but the rest of this year will be even worse than usual on that account. Guess I'll have to make the most of New Years.)
