So, half of you have probably already seen this on boingboing, but for those who haven't, there's a fascinating little chart detailing the positions of all the major players for the 2008 election. And someone has even made a handy little tool that lets you choose your position on each issue and rank it on importance, and then scores each candidate from highest to lowest based on how close they are to your agenda.

In spite of living in Massachusetts for many years, I didn't know a lot about Mitt Romney. What I know now is that according to this tool, he is at the absolute bottom of my list with a score of -44, which essentially means he is opposed to everything good. This would explain why many of my friends have been complaining about Romney for some time.

This actually makes me curious to see a larger application of this tool. Wouldn't it be neat to have a slightly expanded range of issues and then rank all past presidents? Unfortunately, most of the issues are context-sensitive, not only the Iraq war stuff, but everything from economic decisions to social issues sort of inherently can't be separated from the time and circumstances in which those presidents existed.

Actually, a much more useful tool would be a search filter for Amazon.com that only searched within items that qualify for free supersaver shipping. For example, if you had a $20 qualifying item (which I did have), and wanted to find a list of qualifying items in the $5-$10 range so you could have a total order of $25 but not much more (which I did want), it would be neat if there were some search feature for that. Any of you wacky search database modifiers know of something like that?
